A wheel balancer that will not spin does not always mean the motor is bad. In many cases, the problem starts with something smaller, such as a power issue, switch failure, wiring problem, or sensor issue.

1. Power Supply Problems
If the machine will not turn on or the display is dead, the first area to check is power. A loose plug, bad outlet, blown fuse, damaged cord, or internal power supply issue can stop the balancer before it even starts.
Some shops assume the whole machine has failed when the actual issue is electrical. A technician can check incoming voltage, fuses, breakers, connections, and internal components to help narrow down the problem.
2. Hood Switch or Safety Switch Issues
Most wheel balancers have a safety hood switch that prevents the machine from spinning unless the hood is closed. If that switch is damaged, out of adjustment, or not reading correctly, the balancer may refuse to start the spin cycle.
